Film adaptation of Kristoffer Bark

We are proud to announce that Anna Jansson’s crime series about Kristoffer Bark is set to be adapted into film, with a script written by Grand screenwriter Jimmy Nivrén Olsson.

It is the fifth book in the series, May Eternity Forgive, that will be the first film in a planned trilogy, which will be produced by Eyra Media and Drama Svecia, with filming planned for 2026 and a theatrical release in 2027.

“At last it’s happening! With pride, joy, and trust, I hand over the story of Kristoffer Bark to a team with great experience, dedication, and a strong connection to the Region where the stories are set. This will truly be Örebro, Kilsbergen, and Hällefors — forests, lakes, mines, and cave systems, interwoven with the university’s own universe — in a series of both dramatic and everyday events,” says author Anna Jansson.

Anna Jansson made her debut in 2000 with the crime novel The Silent God, featuring Detective Inspector Maria Wern. Her books have been translated into more than 20 languages, sold over 10 million copies, and were adapted into a TV series starring Eva Röse in the lead role. The series has aired in nearly 60 countries worldwide.

The series Bergslagen’s Blue, about Örebro police officer Kristoffer Bark, began in 2019 with the novel Daughter Missing. It tells the story of a group of reassigned officers solving cold cases and has reached a wide audience both in Sweden and abroad. In 2021, Anna Jansson received the Crime Time Awards honorary prize. In 2025, she celebrates 25 years as an author.

The screenplay is written by Jimmy Nivrén Olsson, and the film will be directed by Johan Brisinger. The producers behind the project are Åke Lundström at Eyra Media together with Mikael Flodell at Drama Svecia.

“It’s fantastic to work with Anna’s stories. They have that sweeping quality that belongs on the big screen,” says producer Åke Lundström.

“We want to launch the story of Bark as a film trilogy for cinemas, with May Eternity Forgive as the first part. The goal is for the feature films to lay the foundation for later expansion into both TV and international streaming. This is a wonderful opportunity to give audiences a new favourite within the immensely popular Nordic Noir genre, both in Sweden and abroad,” says producer Mikael Flodell.

Filming for May Eternity Forgive will begin in 2026, with a planned release in 2027.
