Apart from writing, Christoffer Sandler has worked a lot as a director, which has expanded his creativity and shaped his way of writing. He has a talent for transforming an image or a scene from an idea into text, which makes for very compelling manuscripts. Christoffer’s speciality lies in portraying people that the viewers can relate to, whether it is through their flaws or strengths. Over the years, he has worked in a lot of different genres, formats and constellations, always bringing his personal touch and eye for quality to the projects.
In the beginning of his career, Christoffer worked on a lot of shows with a shorter format, that were aired on SVT (Swedish National Television). This was a great way of finding his voice and style, both as a writer and director, through creative experiments that got high praise from the audience. Amongst these shows were Sjukt Oklar (Ellen & Vera), that he wrote and directed, which was voted as the best tv-show of 2018 by the site MovieZine.
In these years, Christoffer also started working with Thobias Hoffmén, a collaboration that is still ongoing, and that they both wish to continue. Their different personalities and strenghts complement each other in a way that reflects in the stories they write… and they have a lot of fun doing it.
When it comes to genre, audience and format, Christoffer likes to variate. The most important thing for him is to capture the everyday human experience, no matter the story. He is drawn to writing about outsiders that feel as if they are not enough for the world they live in, where he likes to explore the grand and spectacular in a person’s inner journey.
One striking example of this is the first feature film that he wrote and directed, Så jävla easy going (So Damn Easy Going), a multi-layered portrait of what it is like to be young in Sweden today. The film won lots of awards and opened the Gothenborg International Film Festival in 2022.
