Nina van den Brink is an author and journalist based in Stockholm. She has a background in journalism and a bachelor’s degree in literary studies and French, and is frequently commissioned to write in-depth profiles of individuals as well as author profiles on language and writing for the Swedish press.
Her first book, the biography Jag har torkat nog många golv, about the cultural icon, cleaner and author Maja Ekelöf – whose books were a sensation across the Nordics in 1970 – was awarded the 2022 August Prize for Best Non-fiction.
Nina was born in Finland, but grew up in Stockholm and Hälsingland, and holds dual citizenships. Her Finland-Swedish working-class family was severely affected by the wars and their aftermath in Finland; ultimately, four generations consisting solely of women and girls moved to Sweden during the 1960s and 70s. In this way, she developed a strong sense of the circumstances faced by girls and women. Recurring themes in her writing include friendship, vulnerability, and solidarity.
Nina has a degree in literature, film studies and French and her first book, a biography of Maja Ekelöf, was awarded the 2022 August Prize for Non-Fiction. Girlhood (Norstedts, May 2026) is her fiction debut.
