2018 – Award of recognition, IndieFEST Film Awards, Ticket Holders

As a 12-year-old, Robin Sherlock Holm had a near death-accident which changed his view of life. After that, he didn’t want to waste a second on anything else than achieving his goal: to make film. When Robin was 18, he produced, wrote and directed his first feature, Ticket Holders, which was prized at the IndieFEST Film Awards. A few years later, he got his big breakthrough with Avgrunden (The Abyss), that has been streamed by more than 50 million viewers on Netflix.

From a young age, Robin started working on big productions like Johan Falk & Gåsmamman, trying more or less every position behind the camera. These experiences gave him the confidence and know-how to make his debut film, Ticket Holders, a drama-comedy in the tone of Clerks.

Being a part of big productions also gave Robin an opportunity to meet some of Sweden’s most talented actors, like Alexander Karim, who plays the lead in his upcoming film The Woman Under the Bed. The close relation to actor’s has improved Robin as a writer, in creating relatable characters and writing authentic dialogue.

When it comes genre, Robin likes to vary, but his strength lies in creating suspense and relational drama. A great showcase of this is Avgrunden (The Abyss), a disaster thriller produced by SF Studios for Netflix, which is based on an idea and script that Robin has co-written. It is as much a film about a crack in the ground as a rift in a family, and this layered storytelling is exactly what Robin aims to achieve.

Besides from working on his own projects, Robin thrives in cooperation with others. His DIY-attitude and wide experience from different roles is often praised by the people he works with. If you hire Robin for a writer’s room, you will get a lot of ideas, but also ways to realize those ideas.

Parallel to writing and directing for film and television, Robin is currently writing on his first novel, a coming of age-thriller set in the Stockholm suburb Spånga, where he grew up.
