Eric Cullhed, Welcome to Grand!

Eric Cullhed is a professor of Greek at Uppsala University, with a broad interdisciplinary profile. Having grown up with influences from three languages and three continents, Eric has always been curious about cultural similarities and differences between people, something which can be seen in his writing.

His trade non-fiction debut, The Philosophy of Crying (Gråt: Tårarnas filosofi), was just published by Natur & Kultur to an impressive response across national media. In the book, Eric takes readers on a fascinating journey through one of the most universal and least understood aspects of being human, our ability to cry. From the ancient Stoics to Freud, from Japanese aesthetics to modern neuroscience, philosophers, and scientists have offered competing explanations for why we weep, and here, the author brings them into conversation for the first time. Rich with surprising stories, big ideas and moments of recognition, The Philosophy of Crying is intelligent, accessible narrative nonfiction.

Beginning with this book, Eric is planning to a number of titles for the wider trade audience exploring aspects of human experience, combining global cultural history with insights from philosophy, psychology, and the natural sciences. We are excited to welcome Eric to the agency, and soon to share The Philosophy of Crying with the world! Submissions will begin very soon.
