A summer evening in the forests outside Malung. Three eight-year-old boys vanish without a trace. Hours later, their bodies are found in a nearby pond—close to the place where they once played.

Detective Inspector Inge Ingesson had hoped to focus on the festivities of the upcoming Dance Band Week, but instead finds himself drawn into the most harrowing case of his career.
