Blood Cruise (Färjan) becomes tv-series
We are happy and proud to announce that Mats Strandberg’s horror novel Blood Cruise (Färjan) will be adapted for the screen, as a tv-series in six episodes with premiere on SVT in the fall of 2025. The series is produced by Northern Fable and Imaginarium, and the head writers of the show are both represented by Grand: Mats Strandberg himself together with Malin Lagerlöf.
Every day, the Baltic Charisma travels back and forth between Stockholm and Helsinki. Always the same route, always the same routines. But this evening, a worn-out motorhome boards the ferry. Inside are the vampire Edith and her son Walter, fleeing. What happens that night will not only affect thousands of passengers and crew but could determine the future of the entire world.
“Writing this script has been one of the most fun things I’ve done,” says Mats Strandberg. “But it has also involved almost as much blood, sweat, and tears as for our characters. We have an incredible team that has driven the project with endless passion. I am so proud of the result. I’m also happy that SVT chose to invest in this kind of series, not only for my sake but also for Swedish horror.”
The producers for Blood Cruise are Alexander Rönnberg at Northern Fable and Will Tennant at Imaginarium Productions, founded by Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings) and Jonathan Cavendish (Bridget Jones’s Diary). The main cast includes Björn Bengtsson (A Nearly Normal Family), Jessica Grabowsky (Top Dog), Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey), and Kolbjörn Skarsgård (Clark). Jonas Alexander Arnby (War of the Worlds) directs.
The head writer of the show are Mats Strandberg together with Malin Lagerlöf, who is currently in theatres with Så länge hjärtat slår.
This is the third of Mats Strandberg’s horror novels to be adapted for the screen. The Conference premiered on Netflix in 2023, with over 19 million viewers in the first half year, and The Home will have cinematic premiere in the start of 2025. In 2015, The Circle, that Mats Strandberg co-wrote with Sara B. Elfgren, was also made into film.
