The Circle turns 10!
This year marks the 10th anniversary of The Circle (Cirkeln) – a fantasy film based on the bestselling novel by Sara B. Elfgren and Mats Strandberg.
When The Circle premiered in 2015, it broke new ground. Swedish genre cinema had never seen anything quite like it, a teenage witchcraft drama with cinematic ambition, emotional depth, and a uniquely Swedish setting. Written by Grand Sara B. Elfgren and Levan Akin, who also directed, the film pushed boundaries both creatively and technically.
“We did things no one had done before in Swedish film,”

A decade later, The Circle still resonates with viewers who saw themselves in the story and it paved the way for more daring and diverse voices in Nordic film, especially within fantasy and youth drama.
