The Walpurgis Night bonfire has burned out, the month of May begins with many activities in the Klockarvik parish in Dalarna.
Priest Samuel Williams is busy, yet the vicar suggests that he accompany the newly formed boys’ choir on a short trip to Italy. Under the leadership of their dynamic choir director, they are set to perform for the Italians and stay in a monastic setting.
But the journey takes a dramatic turn when Samuel discovers the choir director dead in the dining hall – brutally beaten to death. Back in Klockarvik, life must go on, but who could have wished him dead?
Detective Inspector Knis Petter Larsson in Mora is assigned the case, even though both his wife and son were on the trip. Then, tragedy strikes Klockarvik again. A forester is found dead in the woods, and once again, it is Samuel Williams who discovers the body.
Samuel realizes that the police investigation is moving too slowly and decides to see if he can uncover any clues himself. Could the two murders be connected?
