Mullvalds Medieval Market is a beloved event for many. Crafts are sold, and visitors are treated to activities such as archery, pony rides, jousting tournaments, and music. It is a joyful day and a highlight at the end of summer.
This year’s new feature, an archery competition, draws a large crowd. But suddenly an arrow comes whistling through the air and strikes the village’s wealthiest man, Niklas Duse. He collapses, and a bloodstain spreads across his expensive shirt. Tryggve Fridman, the market’s commander, immediately shuts down all activities. Naturally, Anki Karlsson at once begins investigating what might have happened. It turns out that several people in Mullvalds bear a grudge against Niklas Duse.
At the same time as conducting her own private murder inquiry, Anki faces a far greater worry. Her son, Jocke, has disappeared during a cruise abroad. The circumstances surrounding what has happened to the ship are unclear, and the question is whether Jocke will return alive.
The String That Snapped is the eighth book in the popular crime series about Anki and Tryggve, set in the fictional village of Mullvalds on Gotland.
